3 Ways to Re-use Furoshiki

Since ancient times, Japanese tradition has favored the act of folding and wrapping over cutting and fastening. This tendency is reflected in various aspects of everyday life, from the art of origami to the kimono, worn by following a precise technique to fold and shape the fabric into its proper shape.

Similarly, Furoshiki is a cloth used to wrap gifts using a special technique.

It was originally used for carrying necessary accessories to the communal bath and wrapping clothes while bathing, but has over time become part of the important ritual of exchanging gifts. This particular ritual does not stop at wrapping the gift: it is customary to undo the Furoshiki and reveal the gift in the presence of the host, as an act of transparency and sincerity.
